GUILLEM LÓPEZ-CASASNOVAS

Graduate in Economics (Extraordinary Prize, 1978) and Law (1979) from the University of Barcelona, he obtained his PhD in Public Economics from the University of York (PhD, 1984). He was a professor at the University of Barcelona, a visiting scholar at the Institute of Social and Economic Research at the University of Sussex and at the Graduate Business School at Stanford University. He is an Economics Professor at Pompeu Fabra University (UPF), where he has been Vice-Rector for Economics and International Relations and Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business. From 2005 to 2017 he was a member of the Governing Council of the Bank of Spain and Chairman of the International Health Economics Association, between 2007 and 2013. In 1995 he created the Health Economics Research Centre at the UPF, which he currently manages. In 2008, he was awarded the Ramon Llull Prize. He is a numerary member of the Royal Academy of Medicine of Catalonia, a member of the Association of Economists of Catalonia. He was awarded the gold medal of the College of Doctors of the Balearic Islands and the 31 de Desembre Josep Ma Llompart Citizenship Award. In 2012, he was awarded an honorary doctorate by the ISalud University of Buenos Aires. He has been a member of the Spanish Chapter of the Club of Rome and a member of the Board of Trustees of the Sagrada Familia since 2016. In 2016 he received the Creu de Sant Jordi Award, one of the highest distinctions awarded by the Catalonia Regional Government. He is a full member of the Catalan Studies Institute. He currently directs the Catalan Economic Magazine and chairs the Teatre Lliure Foundation. In addition to the Expert Groups in which he has participated in the Commissions of Catalonia and the Balearic Islands, at State level he has served on the Committees for the Study of Fiscal Balances, for the creation of the Law on Dependency, the Evaluation of the Law on Dependency, the Reform of the Health System, the Reform of Autonomous Region Financing and recently the Commission of Experts for Tax Reform. Director of the Catalan Economic Magazine, member of the Editorial Board of the Spanish Public Finance Review of Public Economics, of the Spanish Journal of Public Health, of the Catalan Journal of Public Law and of Health Economics Review.
