Jon Karnon has led health economics research in a range of areas since completing his Masters degree at the University of York in 1995. His initial area of interest was decision modelling techniques, in particular the use of discrete event simulation. This led to a focus on the model-based evaluation of screening programmes, of which he has undertaken many economic evaluations. Moving to Australia in 2007, he has undertaken research related to his membership of the Economic Sub-Committee of the PBAC, including the empirical estimation of an Australian cost-effectiveness threshold and an investigation of extrapolation methods for cancer survival data. Another area of focus is local economic evaluation, working closely with local health services to develop a sustainable approach to using economic evaluation to inform local decision making.
