Katarina Steen Carlsson

Katarina Steen Carlsson has a PhD in economics from Lund University in Sweden. She is chief scientific officer at the Swedish Institute for Health Economics, IHE, Lund and has a position as health economic researcher at the Department of Clinical Sciences, Malmö, Lund University.
Steen Carlsson has 30 years of experience of empirical economic research using registry data and conducting evaluations of medical technologies and health interventions. Recent and on-going research include analyses of registry data on long-term disease (diabetes, cancer, haemophilia, psoriasis) and the evaluation of new treatment technologies (stroke, diabetes, haemophilia). She has published more than 70 original articles and more than 30 reviews and reports. Steen Carlsson is appointed health economic expert for the National Board of Health and Welfare and has conducted literature reviews and economic implementation analyses for national guidelines diabetes care, stroke care, epilepsy, psoriasis, screening for prostate cancer and newborn screening. She is a member of the Scientific Advisory Committee of the SBU – Swedish Agency for Health Technology Assessment and Assessment of Social Services. The committee has regular monthly meetings for reviewing ongoing HTA assessments at the authority. Steen Carlsson is also commissioned health economist at HTA syd, the regional Health Technology Assessment unit of Region Skåne, and a member of Committee for Methods and Priority Setting of Region Skåne.
